X-WR-CALDESC:Join JFD’s Jewish Community Relations Committee and Young Adul
t Division\, with the help of OpenDor Media\, as we explore how we can act
against antisemitism when we encounter it online. \n\nIn this program we
will watch a short film\, “Unsafe Spaces\,” and learn from an expert how w
e can engage in positive discourse. We will be virtually joined by Yoni Bu
ckman\, an Education Associate at Unpacked for Educators. \n\nThis program
is hybrid and will be held on Sunday\, February 23\, 2025 at 2 PM in the
Siegel JCC Kehillah Lounge. \n\nLight refreshments will be provided. \n\n
\nAbout the film: \n\nEveryone knows that Israel is a tough subject\, but
something has been changing recently. In the past\, Jewish students were o
penly attacked for defending Israel but now they are being marginalized fr
om progressive spaces just for being Jewish. \n\nSuddenly groups that are
fighting for human rights\, civil rights\, climate change and other causes
no longer want to include Jewish students. \n\nAs our lives have moved in
to digital spaces\, so has this marginalization. \n\nDive into this realit
y by hearing first-hand accounts of what students—and influencers like Bla
ke Flayton\, Peter Fox\, and Julia Jassey—are experiencing today. \n\n\n\n
About the presenter: \n\nYoni Buckman is the Education Associate at Unpack
ed for Educators\, a division of OpenDor Media. An innovative and experien
ced Jewish educator\, Yoni has been instrumental in designing interdiscipl
inary curricula and spearheading educational initiatives in Jewish communi
ties across the country. He plays a key role in forging partnerships with
schools\, summer camps\, and youth groups across North America to deepen t
heir engagement with topics relating to Israel\, Jewish heritage\, antisem
itism\, and facilitating courageous conversations across differences. \n\n
Yoni is also the Senior Educator at ConnectED\, an educational platform de
dicated to empowering educators\, students\, and parents in independent an
d private schools to fostering critical thinking\, empathy\, and respectfu
l discourse on Israel\, antisemitism\, and Jewish history\, equipping scho
ols with skills for media literacy and courageous conversations. Additiona
lly\, Yoni serves as the Education Lead for Unpacked Junior\, an initiativ
e that engages elementary school students with Israel's history\, culture\
, and geography through innovative and interactive content.
