Tisha b'Av: Mourning the Destruction of Jerusalem, Then and Now

In Jewish tradition the destruction of the city of Jerusalem and the Temple, the house of God within, was catastrophic and seen as nearly apocalyptic for the Jewish people. Today, as many of us watch in terror and frustration the struggles to keep Israel's democracy alive, the holiday of Tisha b'Av which commemorates that destruction, and yes, our and Jerusalem's resilience, feels even more relevant.
