To celebrate Pride Shabbat, Dr. Sophie Lynford, Curator of Pre-Raphaelite art at the Delaware Art Museum, will give a lecture on the British artist Simeon Solomon (1840-1905). Solomon was the only member of the Pre-Raphaelite circle who was Jewish. He painted stories from the Torah and Prophets, as well as scenes of Jewish cultural and liturgical practices. He also used his art to explore his own homosexuality and often depicted same-sex passion in his work. The Delaware Art Museum is currently planning the first exhibition on Solomon ever mounted in the United States. Sophie will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the plans for this exciting show.
